Episodes of the South | Goethe-Institut: Conversations with Objects

quando

29 Oct 2016
11:00 - 13:00
Museu Afro Brasil • Ibirapuera Park, Gate 10

Organized by Goethe-Institut in partnership with the Museu Afro Brasil and the Bienal de São Paulo Foundation, the event Conversations with Objects seeks to consider other possible discourses in the field of art history and to examine the symbolic relationships that we establish with material culture.

The idea is to bring together specialists from various fields around an object regarded as part of non-European art history in order to develop discourses and to reflect on non-Eurocentric perspectives of art history. The object in question will be a Brazilian piece from the archive of the Museu Afro Brasil, which, until the time of the event, will not be revealed.

Conversations with Objects is part of the project Episodes of the South and has the participation of the 32nd Bienal de São Paulo's participating artist Michal Helfman, the Professor Claudia Mattos Avolese (Unicamp), the writer, critic and curator Marcelo Rezende, the artist, curator and professor at the Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia Ayrson Heráclito, the researcher and historian Juliana Bevilacqua.
